Ethics and Corrections Policy

Purpose

Semillas Productions is committed to original, fact-based public-interest journalism. We seek to provide accurate, transparent, independently produced information and analysis, and to correct material errors promptly.

Accuracy and Verification

Before publication, we make reasonable efforts to verify names, dates, quotations, statistics, documents, images, and other material facts. We distinguish verified fact from analysis, commentary, and opinion. When information is uncertain, developing, or disputed, we identify that uncertainty rather than present it as settled fact.

Sources and Transparency

We identify sources whenever practical and attribute information to the underlying document, public record, interview, data source, or publication. Anonymous sources are used only when there is a clear public-interest reason and the information cannot reasonably be obtained on the record. Material conflicts of interest or relevant limitations are disclosed when they could affect a reader's understanding of the reporting.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are not determined by donors, advertisers, political campaigns, parties, candidates, or outside funders. Financial support does not guarantee favorable coverage or control over conclusions. Staff should disclose significant personal or organizational conflicts that bear directly on a story.

Corrections

When we learn that published material contains a material factual error, we review the issue promptly. If a correction is warranted, we update the story, video description, caption, or other publication and clearly note what was corrected and, when appropriate, the date of the correction. Errors that materially change the meaning of a report receive a visible correction rather than a silent edit. Requests for correction may be submitted through the contact information on our website.

Artificial Intelligence and Synthetic Media

AI-assisted tools may be used for research support, transcription, translation, editing, graphics, or production, but human editors remain responsible for factual accuracy. We do not use AI to fabricate quotations, sources, events, or documentary evidence. Synthetic or illustrative images that could reasonably be mistaken for documentary photography are labeled as illustrations or AI-generated visuals.

Updates

This policy may be updated as our newsroom develops. Changes will not alter our core commitments to accuracy, transparency, independence, and prompt correction of material errors.
